What CPU should I get if I can’t use DDR5 RAM?

I recently bought a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but I just realized that I only have DDR4 RAM. I can still return the CPU, but I'm unsure what other options I have for a good gaming CPU within my $450 budget. I was also planning to get a new motherboard since mine isn't compatible with my DDR4 RAM. What alternatives do I have that will give me decent gaming performance without having to invest in DDR5 RAM?

I feel for you! I had a similar situation where I was ready to upgrade, and then the market went crazy with prices. Make sure to also check out used or refurbished options; sometimes you can find great deals on CPUs that meet your gaming needs!

You might want to consider the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. It's a solid option, but keep in mind it's about 40% slower in gaming compared to the 9800X3D. Unfortunately, there aren't many CPUs that can match the performance of the 9800X3D, but it's a good choice if you want to stick with DDR4 and stay in budget.

It sounds like you're in a tough spot! If you're stuck with DDR4, make sure to check if you actually need a completely new motherboard. Some boards can support both DDR4 and newer CPUs if they have the right BIOS update. Just a thought!
