What CPU Upgrade Makes Sense from an i5-12600?

I'm looking to upgrade from my current Intel i5-12600 (non-K), and I'd love some advice on options that won't require changing other components in my setup. Here's what I'm working with: I have a GPU that's a 3070 Ti, a 750W power supply, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and I'm using a Cooler Master air cooler. I'm considering moving up to an i5-14600K since it's the latest equivalent, but I'm not sure if the performance boost will be significant enough for games and workloads like Stellaris that I often run. I really want to avoid getting a new motherboard since that would add extra costs and hassle. I've also considered going for an i7 or i9 from the 14th generation, but I'm concerned that my cooling and power supply might not be sufficient for those upgrades. I've updated my motherboard's BIOS, so I'm not worried about compatibility issues with newer Intel CPUs, but I'm curious about the best path forward without breaking the bank or shifting too much hardware.

I think upgrading to the i5-14600K is definitely worth it. Make sure to do a BIOS update if you haven’t already, and don't stress too much about the transition. It should provide a noticeable improvement for your gaming and workloads!

Honestly, if you're looking for a real performance leap, the i7-14700K would be the best option. If budget allows, you could even consider the i9-14900K or the 14900KS, but the 14700K should give you a solid upgrade over your current CPU without needing a new motherboard.

Hey, what motherboard are you currently using?

I have a B660m DS3H AX DDR4. I checked and it supports all LGA1700 socket processors.

The 14600K is a solid choice! It would be a significant upgrade for your setup, but it seems like your current components can still handle 3-5 more years of use. Just keep an eye on temperatures with the new CPU!
