What Do I Do If My PSU Doesn’t Have a 4-Pin Connector for My ASUS Strix B550-F Motherboard?

I'm putting together a new build using leftover parts which include an ASUS B550-F Gaming motherboard, a Ryzen 9 5950x, and a Corsair RM850X power supply. My motherboard has a 4-pin EATX12V_2 connector next to the 8-pin EATX12V_1 connector at the top. Usually, I've only worked with boards featuring two 8-pin connectors up there. I have several 6+2 cables, but I can't find a 4-pin cable. The power supply doesn't have any 4-pin connectors either. Do I need to find a specific cable for this, or will my current PSU work without it? I should mention I'm not planning on overclocking or pushing my system too hard.

You’re probably fine with just an 8-pin EPS cable, which can handle up to 336W of power. Unless you're planning on heavy overclocking, that should be sufficient. Do you have two 8-pin EPS cables? Sometimes one of them can split into two 4-pins, which would solve your problem!

Thanks for the tip! I just added that I won't be overclocking, so it sounds like I should be good to go with what I have.

I’m confident at least one of your 8-pin EPS cables should split into a 4+4. Make sure to give them one more check!

I really appreciate the confidence, but I inspected all my cables again. No luck on finding a 4+4. I have leftovers from a couple of Corsair PSUs, but none of them seem to include that type.

Just a heads-up, never use a 6+2 PCIe connector for the CPU power—totally different! You should have two EPS cables from your PSU, and one of those is likely a 4+4 type that can split if needed.

Got it! I double-checked, and I only have solid 8-pin cables. Looks like I don’t have a 4+4 connector anymore.
