I'm looking to upgrade from Windows Server 2019 Datacenter edition and we currently have four physical servers. Two of these servers have 96 processors each and the other two have 64 processors each. I'm trying to figure out how many licenses I need to purchase for the upgrade.

You'll need a total of 4 Datacenter licenses, with each covering 16 cores per server. Additionally, you’ll need extra add-on licenses: 2 packs of 20 for the servers with 96 processors and 2 packs of 14 for the ones with 64 processors. So that’s 4 Datacenter licenses plus 68 add-on licenses all together!
First, make sure you know the core count for each server. Also, check if you have active software assurance on your existing licenses, as that can affect your upgrade options.
It's pretty straightforward! Just count the total number of physical cores across all servers (remember, hyperthreading doesn't count). Since you have more than the 16 core minimum per host, that’s your starting point for licenses. You can buy them in different pack sizes, so mix and match however works best!
