I'm curious about how different organizations handle their outdated laptops and desktops. I'm considering getting into reselling them, but it seems like the places I work don't really share their practices. How do you deal with your old tech?

If the laptops are under 5 years, we might clean them up and pass them to non-tech employees or interns. For older ones, we definitely shred them. Better safe than sorry with data security!
We've been donating our old computers to local organizations that refurbish them for families in need. It feels nice to see them go to good use rather than just end up in a landfill. We just ensure that sensitive data is wiped first!
Yes, it really helps the community and reduces e-waste at the same time!
Most places I know just give them to an e-waste recycling company. We do this a couple of times a year, and it can stack up to several pallets of equipment. It's reliable and you don’t have to think about it again!
I completely agree! It’s the easiest way to clear out the old tech without the hassle.
Same here, I have a local e-waste center I drop everything off at every few months. Helps keep the clutter down.
My go-to is Staples; they take all kinds of electronics, even UPS batteries! Or sometimes I just give them to the DELL techs I know, they always appreciate old systems. Just be sure to wipe the drives, of course!
We usually have a yearly sale where we wipe everything, install Windows 10 or 11, and sell them to employees for a low price. The extra funds usually go to our team outings. Plus, everyone loves getting a good deal, and it feels good to keep them out of landfills!
Definitely! It’s great both for staff and for the environment.
That sounds like a win-win! I might suggest that to my boss.

That's such a great idea! I’m going to look for similar programs in my area.
