What GPU should I buy for gaming on a budget?

I'm completely out of touch with the latest PC components and need some advice on upgrading my GPU. I currently have an i5 8600k with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an MSI motherboard, along with a GTX 1060 6GB. I'd like to add a GPU to my second PC which has an i5 12600k and an MSI B760 motherboard, but no GPU yet. My old setup is even falling short on the minimum requirements for Oblivion Remastered.

I'm considering a GPU upgrade to play modern games at high settings, preferably between 1080p and 1440p, and I'm looking at options in the $400-$600 range. I've heard mixed opinions about the 4060, but I've also seen good things about the 7800XT. What should I do? Is there a specific GPU I should get now, or should I wait for something better?

My kid uses an Intel Arc A770, and it's a surprisingly good card! The Arc B series, especially the B580, is a good choice as well. You can find the Arc A770 with 16GB of VRAM for around $360, which is fantastic for the price. Just keep in mind, Intel's dedicated GPUs are relatively new, so you might not have heard much about them before.

Is there a catch with the Arc A770? I haven't heard too much about Intel's GPUs before.

Honestly, spending $500 on a GPU might not give you what you want in terms of serious gaming. If you just want to run games without breaking the bank, look at any of the 40x cards within your budget. For better performance, the 7800 XT and 9070 XT are excellent but will likely cost a bit more than you're looking to spend.

If you're looking for solid options, the 4070 Ti or 5070 Ti are great picks, but keep an eye on availability. You could also consider a 4060 Ti, especially since there's one on Amazon with 16GB of VRAM for around $687; it might be cheaper if you check used options. Just remember that you should aim for something with at least 8GB of VRAM for future-proofing. If you're sticking strictly to the $400 range, you might want to check out the Intel Arc B580.

Definitely! The 4070 Ti should hold up well for that long. Just make sure you check local prices and stock.

Will the 4070 Ti be good enough for 4 to 5 years at medium settings?
