What GPU Should I Get for My Intel 6700K After My GTX 980 Ti Died?

Hey folks,

My GTX 980 Ti just bit the dust, and I'm in the market for a new GPU. Given that I'm running an Intel Skylake 6700K, I'm curious about what graphics card would be the best fit. Ideally, I'm looking for something that won't bottleneck my system too much. What do you think?

What’s your budget like? You could go for something like a 5090, but you wouldn't be able to utilize its full potential. On the lower end, a GT1030 is an option, but you won’t be gaming much with that one 😛

A GPU like the 3060 is probably the maximum you can realistically handle without running into bottleneck issues. Anything stronger than that will likely be held back by your CPU.

Fair point! What about upgrading to something like the Intel B580? Would that be a good move?

You can really pair just about any GPU with your setup. It all depends on your budget. If you’ve got around $800, you might be better off considering a full upgrade instead of just a new GPU. Anything above a 5060 or 9060 XT might bottleneck, but possibly a 5070 or 9079 XT could work. Just keep in mind that would eat up most, if not all, of your budget just for the GPU!

Gotcha! I'm really just trying to figure out the best GPU that won't bottleneck with my CPU. What do you think would be an ideal match?
