What graphics card should I upgrade to for gaming with ray tracing at 1080p?

I'm coming from a GTX 1660, and I've noticed that some newer games are making ray tracing a minimum requirement. While I don't need top-notch ray tracing, I just want to be able to play these games at 1080p with high settings and around 60fps. Ideally, I'd like to get a somewhat future-proof card, but my budget is pretty tight. I'm considering AMD options, but I'm open to anything. What would be the best minimum upgrade for my setup?

Just be mindful of the rest of your system. If your CPU is really old, consider upgrading that too. But if you need a GPU, I'd suggest the RX 9060 XT for solid RT performance.

Look for a current-gen GPU with at least 16GB of VRAM, or maybe a previous-gen card with no less than 12GB. Options like the RTX 40/50 series or AMD’s RX 7700 XT and above would work. The Intel Arc B580 is also an option but it's low-tier.

I heard that the B580 has compatibility issues with lower-end CPUs, though? I know I’ll probably need to upgrade my Ryzen 5 2600 eventually.

You might want to check out the Radeon RX 9060 XT with 16GB of VRAM. That could be a good fit if it meets your budget.

That’s a bit on the high side for me, but I can swing it. Thanks!

Yikes, selling a kidney might be necessary to grab that one!

What games are you looking to play that require ray tracing? My girlfriend plays with a 6750 XT, and it handles Cyberpunk pretty well on 1440p with low RT settings.

I think the new Indiana Jones and Doom games require it, right?

Honestly, just go with what fits your budget. If people suggest something you can’t afford, that’s not really helpful. Don't stress too much about future-proofing; just get what works for your current needs.
