I've been curious about what really happens if someone confesses to a crime while chatting with ChatGPT. I've heard mixed opinions about it. From what I gather, it seems like OpenAI mainly focuses on reporting certain types of content, like exploitative imagery, but I'm unsure about online confessions. It seems logical that a simple confession without supporting evidence wouldn't hold up, and it might only be relevant if authorities had a court order connected to another crime investigation. Why haven't we seen anyone get arrested just for confessing online, then?

Also, remember that confessing to something isn’t the same as doing it in court or through an interrogation. Those confessions are more solid, so an online chat can often be brushed off easily. Someone could just say they weren’t serious, or maybe they were just testing the AI's features.
I'm pretty sure anything sketchy gets flagged and sent to human reviewers. Whether they do anything with it is another question, though. I think if you're on their radar for something, they might easily pull up your chat history to check on what you’ve been asking.
I agree, some of this stuff is probably monitored closely! Just keep in mind that your chats can be read, so it’s best to avoid sharing identifiable or illegal activities.
A confession can technically be evidence, but it really depends on what you say. For something serious like admitting to murder, I can see law enforcement taking it seriously. But if it's minor stuff, like past drug dealing, I doubt anyone's going to care. Just be cautious with your chats!
Honestly, I think nothing major would happen unless it’s something extreme, like plotting to harm someone. They probably have certain keywords flagged for safety, but for most regular confessions, I don’t see it resulting in any real consequences. Just stay safe online!
Exactly! A lot can be claimed after the fact to dismiss it.
