What Job Title Should I Choose for a Flexibly Created Sysadmin Role?

I'm considering a job that will primarily involve sysadmin tasks, including on-call support and server maintenance. However, it will also have elements of network engineering, particularly overseeing server revamps. I'm about 80% confident this role will stay available, even as I explore other opportunities, thanks to connections I've made. The company is willing to create a position that suits my skills, including the job title. What job titles would you recommend that would look good on my resume and support my career growth in the future? Thanks for your help!

You could go with titles like Systems Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer. These roles are pretty respected and can help you stand out in future applications due to their emphasis on both systems and reliability management.

Why not just call yourself 'The Wizard'? I’ve seen some job descriptions ask for 3+ years of wizardry experience! Just kidding; that might not help with job searches, but it’s a fun title!

Haha, I love that idea! But yeah, I’m not sure I’ll be dealing with any magical systems in this role, so it may not be the best fit.

Honestly, as a hiring manager, I can tell you that the actual title doesn't really carry much weight. What really matters are your skills and the experience you bring to the table. If you have solid qualifications, you can apply for almost any title.
