What Linux Distro Should I Choose After Switching from Windows 11?

I'm planning to switch from Windows 11 to Linux for a variety of reasons, but I'm struggling to find the right distribution for me. I have basic computer skills and am typically able to figure things out with a bit of time. My main uses for my laptop include gaming and writing reports for college and work, so I'm looking for alternatives to Microsoft Word and other related programs. I want a distro that's user-friendly and doesn't require a lot of tinkering. Also, I have an MSI Cyborg 15 A12V, which might be worth considering for compatibility. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I switched to Fedora Jam recently and it's been really smooth. I've had some audio issues with Windows 11, so it's refreshing to have a stable experience on Fedora. If you like tinkering, getting into Linux with something like Raspberry Pi OS can help ease you into it too!

You should definitely consider Nobara 42 with KDE. It's been my go-to because everything just works well out of the box. Just remember to download the Nvidia ISO if you have an Nvidia graphics card!

I was thinking about Arch, but honestly, I agree with you on Nobara being a solid choice.

Good point about the Nvidia ISO - I'll make sure to grab that!

I'd suggest going with Fedora or Linux Mint. Fedora KDE is a strong option for newer users, and Linux Mint is great for anyone transitioning from Windows since the interface is quite similar.

Yeah, Linux Mint is especially recommended for beginners, it feels like a familiar environment.

Bazzite is another excellent option if you're into gaming, especially since it comes pre-configured for that. It’s user-friendly too and uses the KDE desktop, which should feel comfortable coming from Windows.

Nobara is also a great alternative that’s similar to Bazzite in functionality.

I like that idea! Bazzite seems like it caters nicely to gamers.

For more guidance, check out the migration page on our wiki. Switching can be tricky, but you'll find a ton of tips there. Just remember to always verify ISO checksums and avoid third-party repositories unless you really trust them!
