What Linux Distros Work Best for My Mini PC?

I'm setting up a mini PC with Linux and want to know how the specs might limit my choice of distros and desktop environments. Here are the specs for my mini PC: Intel N97 processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB NVME SSD. I've tried a few distros like Mint 22 with Cinnamon, LMDE 7, openSUSE with KDE, PopOS 24.04 LTS, and FerenOS. However, I'm not a fan of Fedora, Ubuntu, or Arch-based systems (though CachyOS was somewhat okay). I'm using it mainly for streaming and general web browsing, and I'm hoping it can handle OnShape for CAD tasks just like my older phone can. Any advice would be awesome!

You'll be fine with those specs! I've run Fedora with KDE on similar hardware, and while performance isn't blistering, it still works well for everyday tasks. Just don't expect top-notch speed like with a Ryzen 7 or 9.

Linux is pretty lightweight, so those specs are solid. You might face issues with some specific games, but with 16GB of RAM, you’re good for most apps. If you're feeling adventurous, you can optimize even further with lightweight distros like Tiny Core or Gentoo for performance.

That's true, but just to note, I’m really tired of Windows 11 after allocating only 12GB RAM in VirtualBox. It's such a struggle when graphics are limited to 256MB there!

For sure! VirtualBox doesn't reflect actual performance due to software rendering. Your mini PC will likely handle better with a proper install.
