Hey everyone! I just got my hands on an HP laptop model 14-bs003la and I'm looking to format it and install a new operating system. I don't have programming skills; I mainly want to surf the web and play games on Steam while ensuring my privacy is maintained. What OS do you recommend?

Also, I have a Redmi 9A that I'm planning to format as well. Any suggestions for a good OS for that device? Thanks in advance for your help!

If you're just starting out with Linux, I’d go with Ubuntu. It's user-friendly and perfect for web surfing and gaming on Steam. Plus, there's Ubuntu Touch for mobile devices like your Redmi 9A, so that could be a solid option for your phone too!

Oh, I didn't know Ubuntu had a version for mobiles! Thanks for the tip!

For older laptops, Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop environment is a great choice. If you're feeling adventurous, Arch Linux with a lightweight window manager like i3 works well, too!

If privacy is your top priority, Qubes OS is worth considering in combination with a Linux distro. It’s quite robust when it comes to maintaining confidentiality.

I'll definitely look into that, thanks!

I think Linux Mint Debian Edition is a really nice option too. It's pretty stable and user-friendly!
