I'm looking to build a PC for a friend who isn't very tech-savvy. I've been using Nobara myself and I'm quite happy with it, but I'm unsure if it's the right fit for her. She's studying music, and I'm worried about software compatibility on Linux, as I don't know what she will need. Gaming is another concern since we both enjoy modded Minecraft and REPO. Modding Minecraft on Linux is a bit of a hassle, and REPO has some serious limitations without a Linux version. I'm torn about whether I should compromise my anti-Windows stance and install it, or just risk her hating Linux, even if it's a user-friendly distro.

Honestly, you should just ask her what software she needs for her music studies first. If you find that nothing is compatible with Linux, it might not be worth the risk. Letting her decide might be the best route. Plus, she probably has a better idea of what she wants than you do!
Best bet is to talk to her! If she’s set on using Windows, that's okay too. It's her needs that matter here, not your preferences.
I suggest starting with something like Linux Mint or Ultramarine Linux if you go the Linux route. These are generally easy to use for newcomers. As for software, check if she needs any specific music programs, as things like MuseScore should run fine on Debian systems, although they can have some issues.
I've had mixed experiences with MuseScore on Linux, but it can work if you set it up just right!
If you want something simple, install Linux Mint—it’s user-friendly and a hassle-free experience from Windows. But remember, your friend needs to have a say in the software and system she’s using; after all, it’s her computer!
If gaming is a priority, installing Windows might be the way to go. Modded Minecraft might work on Linux through PrismLauncher, but if REPO has no Linux support, that's a downside. Maybe consider dual-booting to give her options!
Dual-booting sounds like a solid idea! It could provide her the best of both worlds.

I agree with this! It's better to have that conversation than to guess and potentially make her unhappy.
