Hey everyone! My brother gave me some spare PC parts, including a Gigabyte GTX 1080 graphics card, a Gigabyte GA-Z170X motherboard, and a Segoteo CPU cooler, before I moved to the UK. I've only used Xboxes before, so I'm pretty clueless about building a PC. Are these parts good enough for modern gaming? What other components do I need to get? And how do I assemble everything? My goal is to play games like Cyberpunk, Space Marine, BG3, XCOM 2, and Elden Ring. I'm located near London and my budget is around £500 to £1000, but I might be flexible since I just started a new job.

Just to let you know, these parts are quite dated. You might want to hang on to the GPU, especially for a 1080p monitor. Trying to play on 1440p with low settings may not yield the best experience. If you're new to building, definitely check out the guides on PCPartPicker's UK section to get a better idea of compatible parts and builds.
I suggest you consider replacing the motherboard since it’s a bit outdated for modern CPU compatibility. The GTX 1080 graphics card is still decent, but you might want to invest in newer components. You could check out some guides on r/buildapcforme for help with a parts list and assembly.
If your budget is around £500, you can keep the graphics card but will need to replace the motherboard and other parts to get the best performance. If you can stretch to £1000, consider selling the older parts and starting fresh with a new build. Sites like PCPartPicker can really help you find what you need and see how much it will cost.
Definitely watch some YouTube videos on assembly! There are tons of great tutorials out there that can guide you through the process step by step.
