I'm planning to get a Zotac Solid OC 5090 GPU and I'm a bit confused about which power supply (PSU) I should buy. Specifically, I'm curious about cable compatibility and what version of ATX I need to look for. Any advice?

You can easily check your build's requirements using PCPartPicker. It will show you compatible parts and alert you if anything doesn't match up!

For the 5090, you'll want at least a 1000W PSU, preferably ATX 3.1. Look for one with either a 12VHPWR cable or at least four PCIe cables. I suggest checking out the Reddit PSU tier list to find a reliable option with an A rating!

I recommend the NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1; it's a great price for the quality and has an A+ rating on the tier list. Plus, you might want to consider undervolting the 5090 to curb power consumption and avoid issues with the connector!

Definitely go for a 1000W PSU that supports either four PCIe cables or a native 12V-2x6 connection (12VHPWR). Just a heads up, ATX 3.0/3.1 PSUs are a bit better at handling those crazy short power spikes that some GPUs can demand. That's key for the 5090's performance!

Given the issues with the 5090, would you recommend waiting to buy one? I have a 4080 right now, but the 16GB VRAM isn’t cutting it for me.

If you're looking for something with extra protection, the AsRock Phantom Gaming PG-G is a solid choice. It has enhanced safeguards for the 12V-2x6 connection, which could be beneficial for stability.
