Hey everyone! I'm looking to earn the AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate (DEA-C01) certification and I've got a course on Udemy to kick things off. However, I just found out that I need some prior knowledge of AWS, specifically EC2, networking, and the basics. Since I'm new to AWS with no previous experience, I'd appreciate your advice on which courses to take that would help me understand these fundamental concepts before diving into my Data Engineer materials. Thanks in advance!

If you have a background in tech or engineering, I suggest starting with the AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification courses. It'll give you a solid grounding in general AWS knowledge before moving on to other certifications.

Thanks, I have experience as an ETL developer for 15 years, primarily with Ab Initio and Datastage. I'll definitely check out the AWS Solutions Architect Associate course!

Starting with the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification would be a great move. It covers the fundamentals and basic services, setting a solid foundation before you tackle the AWS Solutions Architect course. And don't forget, AWS Skill Builder has some excellent free resources, too!

You should definitely check out AWS Skill Builder for a mix of both free and paid courses. They have a good selection to help you get started with the essentials.

If you're starting from scratch with AWS, it's wise to press pause on the data engineer materials for now. Get a grasp of the foundational topics like EC2, S3, IAM, and VPC first. Once those are familiar, the data engineering content will no longer feel as daunting.

It's completely normal to feel this way! The DEA-C01 expects you to have some prior AWS knowledge. Before diving deep into data engineering, I recommend mastering the basics, such as EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, and a general understanding of networking concepts. Take things step by step and don’t rush; once you grasp the basics, the rest will come together nicely.
