Hey everyone! I'm heading to college in July 2026 to study Software Engineering. I've got some experience with Java, VBA, and a little HTML and CSS. I've got a 3-4 month break before classes start, and I'm wondering what additional programming languages or skills I should focus on to excel in my studies and do well in hackathons! Any suggestions?

Have you thought about checking your future curriculum? It might give you an idea of what languages to focus on! I saw some common starting classes like "Introduction to Computer Systems" and "Math for Engineers," but they didn't specify programming languages. Just a thought!
Honestly, investing in a comfy pair of walking shoes could be one of the best things you do as an aspiring computer science student. I mean it! Balancing coding and taking care of yourself is key. And you might also want a cat to keep you company while you code—just kidding... or am I?
Looks like you’ve got a solid foundation with Java and VBA! I suggest picking up Python because it’s super versatile and great for hackathons since it lets you build projects quickly. JavaScript is another must if you want to dive into full-stack development. Also, getting comfortable with Git will help a lot for collaboration. I learned a ton from freeCodeCamp tutorials—definitely worth checking out! Oh, and don't forget to try participating in beginner hackathons like Sensay Hackathon; they’re a blast!
Awesome, thanks a lot!
It's quite generic, but I’ll keep that in mind!
