What RAM upgrade should I go for?

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM, and currently, I have 2x8GB DDR4 running at 3200MHz in a system that has 4 slots available. RAM prices are quite low right now, so I'm considering adding another 16GB for the time being while I plan for a larger upgrade down the road. Here are the options I'm weighing:

1. Keep my current RAM and add 2x8GB of 3600MHz for $60.
2. Keep my current RAM and add 1x16GB of 3200MHz for $54.
3. Remove the old RAM and replace it with 1x32GB of 3200MHz for $108.
4. Remove the old RAM and replace it with 2x16GB of 3200MHz for $113.

I'm not looking to switch to DDR5 just yet since that would mean spending around $600 on a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM.

If you're adding more RAM, it's usually best to use exactly the same modules and speeds. Otherwise, either replace everything or add the exact same type to ensure good performance.

I think option 1, adding the 2x8GB of 3600MHz RAM, is the most budget-friendly choice, but there's a chance it might lead to some instability due to compatibility issues. If you can, try to place the RAM modules in different channels to enable dual-channel mode. That said, option 4 with the dual 2x16GB kit is the best long-term choice for performance, although it seems a bit pricey. My local stores have more decent prices for DDR4.

I got those prices in CAD, but yeah, 2x16GB for about 70 Euro seems like a steal!

You want to be really careful when adding RAM. Make sure to match them by brand, speed, and even the part number to avoid any stability problems, especially if you're aiming for overclocking. A lot of people think the best combo for dual-channel is placing them in slots 1 and 4. Definitely check used options online; I’ve had good luck finding compatible Corsair RAM, though AMD boards can be tricky. You might find a set of 32GB (2x16GB) for a switch, then sell your old sticks.

Appreciate your advice! The RAM I'm using is VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16. I found a new pair for $134, which feels outrageous. I haven’t looked on Facebook Marketplace yet.
