What should I do about my failing hard drive and an SSD upgrade?

My hard drive has started making a clicking noise, which I've learned could mean it's on the verge of dying. I want to replace it with a 4TB SSD since my current 2TB hard drive is almost full. However, I've noticed that SSD prices are quite high. Is there any chance they'll drop in price soon? I already have a 1TB and a 2TB SSD that are also full, so I can't just transfer my data there. What are my best options?

Prices are likely to stay high for a while. Manufacturers are prioritizing production for AI data centers, so SSDs won't get cheaper anytime soon. If possible, consider getting a smaller SSD for your important stuff and keep a larger HDD for less critical storage.

Since you already have two SSDs that are full, it might be worth looking into cleaning them up if possible. However, if the data is important and you can't afford to lose it, you could look for a second-hand SSD. Unfortunately, prices for new SSDs aren’t expected to drop anytime soon, so that might be your best bet.

One option to consider is using cloud storage for your important files. You can get 5TB for about $20 a month from Google Drive, which could keep your data safe while you figure out a permanent solution.
