I spilled hot, oily soup on my MacBook's trackpad, and I'm feeling really worried about it since it's a new purchase. I quickly wiped it off with paper towels, shut it down, and set it in an upside down-V position to dry. It accidentally powered on twice when I moved it, but I turned it off again right away. I read online that I should wait 24-48 hours before using it again. Right now, I have the lid closed to prevent it from turning on by accident while it's upside down. Should I take it to the Apple store? What else can I do?

Honestly, once liquid gets in, it’s risky. You should head to the Apple store quickly, especially since it was oily soup, as it can cause more damage to components over time. If you have AppleCare+, that will help cover any accidental damages, so hopefully, they can fix it without too much trouble. Just remember, no food around electronics in the future!
Did you happen to get AppleCare for your MacBook? If so, that's a huge relief because they cover accidental damage with AppleCare+. It’s definitely a good idea to take it to the store as soon as you can. Once liquid spills inside, it can create serious issues, so getting it inspected is a must. Even if it seems okay now, the effects of the soup could take a toll later on. Stay clear of food near electronics in the future, and good luck!
I checked and I do have AppleCare+, so that’s a relief! Thanks for the help!

Haha, definitely learned my lesson! I’ll be more careful next time.
