I recently installed a Minecraft mod that turned out to have a trojan, which Windows Defender didn't catch. After installing it, Minecraft wouldn't run properly, and I noticed that all of my in-game money from the targeted server got wiped out. I'm not overly concerned about losing the money, but I'm really worried about the overall security of my Windows computer. I downloaded the mod from a .jar file and I've deleted all instances of it. What are the steps I should take to ensure my computer is safe?

Reinstalling Windows might sound extreme, but it can be the safest way to ensure that the trojan is completely gone. If you haven't backed up your files yet, make sure to do that first. It might be a hassle, but it'll give you peace of mind about the security of your system. What do you think?
Reinstalling does feel like overkill, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I would suggest doing a full malware scan right away and considering changing all your passwords, especially if you’re worried about security. A complete Windows reinstall can be overkill for something like this, especially since it was just a mod.
You might want to check out Bitdefender or Kaspersky; both have solid reputations. They should help you tackle this issue effectively!
You should run Malwarebytes as it’s a really effective tool for detecting and removing malware that most other programs might miss. It’s worth a shot before going through a full reinstall.
If you want something less intrusive, try using Trend Micro HouseCall. It’s a nice tool that works well without bogging down your system.
Consider downloading Kaspersky's free version. It has good detection rates and could help clear up any lingering issues from that trojan.
I’m in the US, do you think the free version is still reliable?

Yeah, I would definitely recommend doing a backup before you go for a full reinstall!
