What should I do after losing my game saves following a CMOS battery change?

I recently had my PC cleaned by a friend who took it apart, cleaned it, and repasted the GPU and CPU. After he finished, I attempted to play Resident Evil 8 and discovered that I had lost my saved game progress. It wasn't a huge deal since I wasn't too far in, but now I've started a different game and it seems like the save is also gone, bringing me back to the beginning. Is there anything I can do to recover my saves or figure out what went wrong?

If you purchased your games through platforms like Steam or the Xbox store, your saves might be stored in the cloud. If you have a hard copy or didn't have cloud saves enabled, you might be out of luck. But it's worth checking your game settings to see if there's an option for cloud saves. Let us know if you find them!

I think I have cloud saves for most of them. It was a strange situation!

Honestly, it sounds like your friend might've accidentally messed something up while cleaning your PC. The CMOS battery shouldn’t be affecting your game saves directly. You might want to revisit how things were set after the cleanup. It’s a good reminder to be cautious when doing maintenance!

You mentioned you have multiple drives. If the CMOS battery change reset your BIOS, it might have altered the boot order, leading Windows to assign different drive letters. This could cause games to look for your save files in the wrong locations. Double-check your BIOS settings to ensure everything is set correctly!

Yeah, I have drives A and D for games, and a 120GB SSD for C. I’ll check the boot order.
