I was cleaning my PC and decided it was time to reapply thermal paste to my CPU, which I hadn't done in about five years. While trying to remove the heatsink, it was really stuck—basically welded to the CPU. I even tried heating it up with a hair dryer and wiggling it gently, but nothing worked. Eventually, the CPU socket broke off the motherboard, leaving half of it on the CPU itself. The CPU seems okay, just some slightly bent pins that I think can be fixed. Now, I'm wondering if I should just buy a new AM4 motherboard or consider upgrading. My current setup includes a Ryzen 2600x and an XFX RX 5700 (non XT). I'm concerned about my GPU bottlenecking any newer CPUs. What's the best upgrade path that wouldn't require me to replace my GPU?

If you have the budget, definitely consider moving to an AM5 motherboard and pairing it with a Ryzen 7 or even a Ryzen 9. You'll see a significant performance boost!
Wouldn't my GPU be a big bottleneck for that?
