I recently had someone spill Monster Energy drink on my laptop. I've left it to dry for a week and haven't turned it on yet. I'm worried that I might be risking damage if I try to charge it and power it on now. What should I do? Is there a chance I've done something wrong by not turning it on sooner?

You might want to consider flushing it out with deionized water to get rid of the sugary residue. Just make sure it's completely dry before you try turning it back on again. It can help to prevent short circuits or other damage. And yes, don’t forget to take out the battery first!
You definitely need to make sure to clean out the laptop properly. Even after it dries, the drink could leave residues that might corrode the internal components. If you're up for it, you should open it up and check for any sticky spots. If you're not comfortable with that, just know that you might be risking it if you just plug it in and hope for the best!

What’s the actual risk if I try to open it? Is it worth it?
