What should I do if I accidentally received $2000 from someone I used to know?

I received a random payment of $2000 from an old contact whose number I don't have saved anymore. This money was meant for someone else, and now they're asking me to send back what I have left after my auto debits. I'm a bit worried about potential legal issues or if I could face anything like small claims. Should I be concerned about this situation?

Sounds like a scam to me! I can't stress this enough: don't send any money back. If they were truly in a bind, they wouldn't be asking you to return a fraction of what they sent. You're at risk of losing whatever you send back and possibly dealing with issues with your bank if this gets flagged as fraud.

Yeah, I've heard similar stories where people end up losing more than they gain. Better safe than sorry!

Definitely be concerned—it’s likely a scam. The money can be taken back once the bank figures out it wasn't meant for you. Sending anything back complicates the matter and could harm your banking situation. Just let them deal with it through Apple instead!

Don't even think about wanting to resolve their problems. Just move on! It’s not your fault they sent money to the wrong person. Focus on keeping your own finances safe and let them sort out their mess.
