What Should I Do If I Got Malware From a Cheat Program?

Hey everyone, I accidentally downloaded some malware while trying to cheat in a single-player game. I got Cheat Engine and a table for it, and it seems I've picked up a bunch of unwanted processes from 'ReasonLabs,' along with a clear piece of malware called Weather Zero. I'm not sure if there's more lurking around, and I'm running Windows 11. I'm looking for advice on what to do next. Is it safe to transfer some important files off the machine and just wipe the whole thing? Or should I try using some antivirus software first?

First thing, switch to a different device and change all your passwords. Then you can transfer the necessary files to a USB drive (make sure to do it offline!) and disconnect the infected machine from the internet. For malware removal, I recommend using Microsoft’s offline virus scanner; it can help clean up most threats. If that doesn’t work, a factory reset might be your best bet.

I have a ton of passwords, and I mostly use a different computer for important stuff. Should I really change all my passwords? How do I go about it, or is it enough to just update the ones for the accounts I usually access on the infected machine?

Honestly, if you think your system is infected, you have a couple of options. First, back up your essential files and consider completely reinstalling your operating system using clean installation media from a USB. Just make sure you don't back up any suspicious files! If you want to try scanning first, run a good virus scan and see if that clears it up. Just be cautious—never download from sketchy sites, and make sure .exe files are legitimate!
