What should I do if I received a suspicious text from Apple about a failed purchase?

I just got a text claiming there was a failed purchase from Apple due to insufficient funds, but I didn't make any purchase. When I checked my billing info, it indicated that there was indeed a failed transaction, and I can't change my password for another hour. Should I cancel my card and get a new one, or just change my Apple password?

First off, Apple usually doesn't send texts for billing issues; they tend to use email. You might want to verify where you saw the failed payment—if it was under 'Settings > [your name] > Payment & Shipping,' then it likely indicates an app purchase or a subscription that was declined. To dive deeper, check your Purchase History in the App Store app—tap your profile icon at the top right, then 'Purchase History.' Also, you mentioned the one-hour wait for changing your password, which could be part of Apple’s Stolen Device Protection. It requires extra verification under certain conditions.

I checked my bank app, and it also showed a declined charge for the same amount. What should I make of that?

I found out the text was actually from my bank, confirming the purchase attempt at Apple. Just be sure to keep an eye on your statements!

Just so you know, the text you received said 'Denied charge for $32.31 on 09/08 at APPLE.COM/BILL...' If that’s accurate, circle back to your bank. If there’s a possibility of unauthorized transactions, consider contacting them directly and maybe even change your card just to be safe. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks, that makes me feel better about possibly switching cards.
