What should I do if my GPU requires an 8-pin connector but my PSU only has a 6-pin?

I have a Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500 W PSU and a PNY GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER GPU that needs an 8-pin connector. Currently, my PSU only has a 6-pin PCI-E connector. Should I invest in a new PSU or can I get away with using an adapter? I heard about a Molex adapter but I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

If you're looking for a solid replacement without breaking the bank, check out some reliable options. You want to avoid this PSU if you can; it's been known to cause issues. Look for models that rate a C tier or better according to PSU tier lists.

Honestly, I recommend upgrading your PSU. It’s one of the most important components when it comes to stability and future-proofing your setup. An adapter might seem like a quick fix, but it’s not the best long-term solution.

I totally agree about upgrading the PSU. Your current one is pretty notorious for being unreliable. Using an adapter can actually be risky; it might not handle the power properly and could lead to overheating or worse.
