Hey everyone! I'm planning my future and could really use some advice. Since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by programming but haven't had a good laptop to learn on. Now that I'm 18, I'm considering my major. I've dabbled in Linux, self-hosting, and issues around privacy, so cybersecurity seems appealing. But I still have a strong desire to learn programming, my childhood dream. I'm worried about AI impacting job security and I've heard that cybersecurity jobs are more stable compared to programming. What do you all think? Any advice would be great!

Don't let the hype around cybersecurity fool you—it can be just as tough to break into as coding! If programming really interests you, you should focus on that. Despite the competitive landscape, software development remains highly rewarding. The industry is changing due to AI, but coding skills are still in demand!

There will always be a need for people who can create and improve AI systems, even if automation takes over some tasks. Choose a career that sparks your passion—if you lack interest, you'll find it hard to stick with it. Passionate people are harder to replace, so go for what you love!
