What Should I Upgrade First in My 10-Year-Old PC?

Hey everyone! I built my PC about 10 years ago and it's really starting to show its age. Here's a quick rundown of my current specs: Intel Core i5-8600 CPU, GTX 1060 GPU, 16 GB RAM, and a couple of SSDs along with an HDD for storage. I'm trying to figure out my upgrade path and how to prioritize them.

I'm considering upgrading my GPU first, possibly going for something like a 5070, but I'm worried about needing a new PSU for that increased wattage. I'm also thinking about bumping my RAM up to 32 GB. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade the CPU too, but I wonder if my motherboard will be a bottleneck. What are your thoughts on the best upgrade order for performance? Thanks for any insights!

First off, I’d say your first priority should be the power supply. Running a 10-year-old PSU can be risky, and getting a reliable one will ensure stability while you upgrade other components. After that, you can decide between upgrading the GPU or the CPU/RAM/motherboard. Just know that if you upgrade the GPU first, it might get bottlenecked by the other components, so consider how much you're willing to spend versus starting fresh with a new build.

Totally agree. It's better to have a safe and stable base. Focusing on the PSU first sounds like a solid plan!
