What should I upgrade on my 5-year-old gaming PC for better performance?

I've been gaming for a while but don't consider myself very tech-savvy. I'm looking for advice on upgrading my gaming PC, which is about five years old. I don't need top-of-the-line specs, but I'd like to run newer games with mid-tier graphics settings. I recently got Horizon Forbidden West, and my system suggests I should use the Performance settings. Here are the recommended specs for that game: 1080p at 60 fps, Medium graphic settings, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 for the GPU, an Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for the CPU, 16 GB of RAM, Windows 10 64-bit (version 1909 or higher), and at least 150 GB of SSD space.

Here are my current specs:
* GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super
* Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90GHz
* RAM: 16 GB
* Storage Used: 1.02 / 1.35 TB
* OS: Windows 11 64-bit

I'd like to keep costs reasonable; I'm not aiming for a top-of-the-line machine, just wanting to enjoy modern games without having to set everything to minimum. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your CPU is solid enough for gaming at 60fps. For about $200, you could look for a GPU like the RTX 2080 or the GTX 3070 if you're lucky. If you can spend a little more, you might find the RTX 2080 Ti or a 3080 priced around $300-$400. Those will definitely give you a great experience for modern gaming!

I would recommend focusing on upgrading your GPU since that's the biggest bottleneck in your system right now. Your i7 processor is still solid for gaming. Just make sure to check if your power supply can handle a new GPU if you decide to upgrade. That should set you on the right track!

Totally agree! A new GPU will give you the best performance boost.

If you're aiming for 1080p gaming with decent settings, consider these GPUs:
1) RTX 5070
2) RTX 5070 Ti
3) RTX 5060.
These will definitely help you get the performance you’re looking for!

It all depends on how much you want to spend. Upgrading to a better GPU is crucial, and I’d say your GTX 1660 Super is the weak spot in your setup. If you can stretch your budget a bit, consider looking at options like the RTX 2060 or 2070. They offer a great performance boost without breaking the bank.
