What Specs Do I Need for 1440p Gaming Without Issues?

Hey everyone! I'm a bit out of my depth when it comes to figuring out the right CPU and GPU for gaming. I'm interested in trading my PS5 Pro for a custom PC since I've been wanting one for a while, but my budget is tight with bills and kids. A coworker who builds PCs on the side offered me a deal. I currently game at 1440p 120Hz without any hiccups, but my monitor can handle up to 180Hz.

He specializes in Intel CPUs, so I'm curious about the minimum specs I should be looking for to ensure I can still play at 1440p smoothly. I know his builds come with at least 32GB of RAM and over 1TB of storage. One PC he mentioned has an RTX 4060, an i7-8700 processor, and some cool features like RGB lighting and an AIO cooler. I just want to make sure I'm making a good decision before moving forward, so thanks for any advice!

On the CPU front, you're pretty safe. If he's mostly working with Intel, consider the 12500K or even the 14700K for solid performance. However, trading your PS5 Pro might not get you a GPU that can match its power; many GPUs around $250 won't cut it compared to the PS5's performance. Just keep that in mind so you don't end up disappointed!

Hey, take your time with the decision. Sometimes it’s better to stick with what you know if it’s giving you a good experience!

Honestly, I wouldn't buy that setup if you're serious about gaming. The specs sound decent but I'm skeptical if they can keep up with your PS5 Pro. It’s worth exploring other options to ensure you’re not missing out on performance!

The graphics card is crucial for your setup. Make sure to get one with solid memory, like a "3080 10GB". It’s also important to check which Intel or AMD CPU you're getting because that can affect performance too. It sounds like the 32GB of RAM is promising—just confirm if it’s DDR4 or DDR5! Also, having a 1TB SSD is good, just check if it's NVME to ensure fast loading times.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely ask about the RAM type and SSD specs.
