What Specs Should I Look for in a Monitor for 4K Gaming?

I'm building a new rig for 4K gaming and aiming for at least 60 FPS, but I'd love to hit 144 FPS or more if possible. I really want a monitor that can match my PC's output, but I'm not entirely sure what specs I should be focused on. I'm considering a size of at least 27 inches, potentially going up to 32 inches or more. My brother has this massive 59-inch super wide-screen monitor that curves around his field of view, and while it's cool, I think that might be a bit excessive for me. I do like the idea of a curved monitor, though. Primarily, I'm looking for brand and model recommendations. Ideally, I'm thinking about something like 4K resolution with at least 144Hz refresh rate, and I'm unsure whether to go for OLED, QLED, or something else that offers the best picture quality.

For me, having HDR1000+ certification is critical at this level. While I'm not strictly an OLED fan (I actually prefer miniLED to avoid burn-in issues), if I had to choose, I'd take a 27" 1440p monitor with HDR 1000 over a 4K monitor without HDR. It gives you an extra level of detail, especially in games that support it. Just make sure your PC is equipped to handle 4K, as it can be really demanding. Even high-end GPUs like the 5090 might struggle in the latest games.

Yeah, I'm planning to build a rig with a 5080, but I might need to adjust my expectations since even a 5090 isn't guaranteed to deliver what I'm looking for. I might just aim for 1440p with HDR and 144+ FPS. It could save me some money on both the monitor and GPU!

If you're going for 4K, I highly recommend looking into OLED monitors. They tend to offer sharp images and vibrant colors that really enhance gaming experiences. Just remember that most OLED panels are made by Samsung or LG, so check the features and prices to get the best value.
