What Specs Should I Look for in a Pre-Built Gaming PC?

Hey everyone! I'm really interested in diving back into gaming and I've been watching some gameplay of DayZ and Rust. While these games might be a bit older, they're definitely calling to me! The only problem is, I'm not sure what type of gaming PC I should get—especially since I want the flexibility to upgrade in the future.

I've never owned a gaming PC before, so I'll need everything including the peripherals. I'm leaning towards a pre-built system since I'm not super comfortable building one or picking compatible parts myself. I get that pre-builts can be more expensive, and I'm prepared for that. I know RAM prices are on the high side at the moment, so I'm okay with waiting if that helps save on costs.

For a bit of context, I'm in my mid-50s. Back in the late 80s, I used to build PCs and servers for clients, so I have some understanding, but technology has changed so much since then that I feel a bit lost! My budget is around £2,500—though I realize that might just get me a lower-end system, especially since I need a monitor too.

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Don't worry! £2,500 is plenty for a high-end system. You're going to be able to set yourself up nicely with that budget!

Really? That makes me feel a lot better! It took a good while to save up that amount.

Check out this build suggestion I found! It’s around £1,800 and includes a monitor—perfect for what you want to play. You can adjust the RGB settings via software if you’re not into all the flashy lights.

I recommend swapping the motherboard for the Gigabyte B850 Eagle Wifi6E; it’s a better choice at the same price! Also, consider the 7800X3D for better gaming performance. It's a solid setup overall!

Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely check that out.

Just be cautious with pre-builts—they often come at a premium. I’d suggest exploring the used market. You can get good deals and just invest in a new power supply for reliability. If you need help finding local options, let me know!
