What to consider when choosing a Synology backup device?

I'm looking for advice on setting up a backup solution using a Synology server. I'm curious if Synology provides built-in software for backing up Microsoft products, such as SharePoint and Azure VMs. Additionally, can it back up local Windows file servers? Since we need a rack-mounted option, I'm also wondering what kind of hard drives are recommended—should we go with SSDs? We'll need at least 16TB of storage after accounting for RAID.

Backing up data from Azure can get pricey due to egress fees, so think twice before pulling everything down. It might be worth exploring Microsoft's backup solutions or using a hosted service instead.

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ll have to check into those options.

You should definitely consult with your VAR (Value Added Reseller) for more specifics on your setup. Just a word of caution: don't use Synology as your main production storage; it's better suited for backup purposes.
