I dropped my 2TB WD Passport external hard drive from about half a meter, and now it doesn't seem to be working. I've used up about half of its storage, and I had a lot of important files on it. I'm not really looking to pay a thousand dollars for recovery options, so I'm wondering if there are any ideas on what I can do or if I'm just out of luck here.

Dropping your hard drive can definitely cause some serious damage. If you want to try recovering your data yourself, you can attempt to take the drive out of its casing and connect it directly to your computer using a SATA connection. But be aware that some models can be tricky with soldering involved—it's not for the faint-hearted! If it's detected but you can't see your files, you could try software like Testdisk to recover them.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve got the same model as in a video I saw. Do you think following those steps in the video might help me?
