Hey everyone! I'm making the move from Windows 11 to PopOS and I want to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. I mainly use my computer for schoolwork, Zoom meetings, and some gaming. I've played around with Linux on older laptops so I have a basic understanding of it. My biggest concern right now is losing data, especially since I have a ton of homework and important files saved on my PC. Is there an easy and efficient way to transfer all my files?

Before diving in, you might want to try Linux out on a virtual machine first. It’s a great way to get comfortable with the installation process and see how you like the platform. It'll help ease the transition!

It's a good idea to back up your files on an external hard drive or a reliable cloud service. No matter what, you want to safeguard your data against loss. Also, keep in mind that you won't be able to use MS Office directly, but you can try alternatives like OnlyOffice or LibreOffice. Maybe even use the online version of MS Office if you need it. Good luck on your Linux journey!

Definitely back up everything you want to keep onto an external hard drive. It's just a smart move to protect your files from any unexpected problems with your current setup.

Getting an external HDD, SSD, or even a USB stick is a solid way to handle the backup. Alternatively, you might want to consider a cloud service for extra peace of mind. Enjoy PopOS! I might switch my gaming rig over soon too.
