I have a feeling my boss is about to get fired. Has anyone here experienced stepping in after their boss was let go? What was your experience like? Did you feel prepared for the responsibilities that came afterward?

If you find yourself taking over after your boss gets fired, keep things professional first. Lock down their accounts and reset any access they had. If you're asked to step up, get everything in writing so you're clear on your role and responsibilities. You don't want to overextend yourself, especially if it's only a temporary situation until they find a replacement.
It's important to know if your boss was primarily a manager. In many cases, their boss will take over those managerial tasks, while you might be asked to handle technical work. Be aware that stepping into a managerial position without experience can be tricky. New management often comes in and may shake things up, so be ready for some changes once they arrive!
It's interesting how management often emphasizes how tough their jobs are while reminding others they can't just step into those roles. I've had managers say they struggled when starting but also claim I wouldn't be able to take on management duties easily.
