What to Expect in a CTO Interview Debrief for a Software Engineer Role?

Hey folks, I'm currently in the interview process for a Software Engineer position and I could really use some guidance from anyone who's been through a similar experience. So far, I've had a screening with the CEO and completed a coding assignment where I created a Python script that pulls and processes public vulnerability data, specifically filtering for Java-related issues and generating a clean report from it. My next step is a debrief with the CTO, which will be our first conversation. What can I expect during this debrief? What kind of questions might the CTO ask, like should I prepare for technical details, project design discussions, or how I align with the company? Also, considering the interviews I've completed, where do you think I stand in the interview process? I'm keen to be well-prepared and confident. Any insights or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thanks!

During your CTO debrief, expect casual yet probing technical questions. The goal is to gauge your overall aptitude rather than just checking off a list. Don't be surprised if the questions cover a wide range — it won't necessarily be about the difficulty of the questions themselves, but rather your thought process. Be honest; if you don’t know an answer, explain how you’d tackle the problem instead. The key is to avoid trying to impress them with smoke and mirrors; being genuine will go a long way. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I really want to nail this interview. It's a big opportunity for me, especially since I'm relocating halfway across the world for the position.
