What type of hard drive should I get for my Acer GX-781?

Hey everyone! I just got an Acer GX-781 from a family member, but it came without a hard drive. I'm totally new to this, and I'm not sure what kind of hard drive I need to buy. Are there specific requirements I should look for, or can I just choose any hard drive as long as it meets certain specs? I realize this PC is a bit older, so I know it won't handle the latest heavy games like Genshin Impact, but I'd love to play something lighter like The Sims. I appreciate any help—sorry if my terminology isn't perfect as English isn't my first language!

I'd suggest getting an SSD rather than a traditional hard drive. Any PC from the past couple of decades should be compatible with 2.5" SATA SSDs. Just make sure to check if it can also handle M.2 NVMe SSDs, as they’re more popular now but can be a different interface.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Would this Kingston NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1TB M.2 SSD work for my setup? It looks similar to the one it had before.

Nope, that specific SSD won’t work. You need a SATA M.2 SSD. They look the same as NVMe drives but use a different interface. Alternatively, a 2.5" SSD is also a solid choice. Just check this list of compatible options to compare: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#D=0&t=0&A=800000000000,24000000000000&sort=price&page=1

You should be good with any SATA drive. For best performance, I’d recommend going for a 2.5" SATA SSD, which are still pretty common on the market. They'll fit perfectly and really improve your load times!
