What Upgrade Should I Focus On for My PC Right Now?

I'm rethinking my plans to build a new AM5 - 5080 rig this year after seeing the current pricing situation in my country, which has gotten worse. Right now, I've got a 5600X CPU, a 6700XT GPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a 650W MSI MAG PSU. This setup handles 1440p gaming on medium settings pretty well for most games I play, but I'm starting to notice some performance issues with titles like Expedition 33.

I mainly enjoy Souls games and action titles like GOW and Ragnarok. I also dabble in Blender as a hobby, which gives me a preference for Nvidia graphics. I'm considering getting a 5070 or 5070 Ti for future-proofing and compatibility with a potential new rig down the line, but I'd need to upgrade my PSU too. Alternatively, should I focus on upgrading my CPU instead and wait for a cheaper GPU in 2025? What's the best route to take right now, or should I just hold off for another year?

Honestly, I don't see any worthwhile CPU upgrades right now. Most of the games you mentioned lean more on your GPU's power, so upgrading to a 5800X likely won't help much. I suggest investing in a new GPU and getting a beefier PSU to prepare for future upgrades when prices drop.

Thanks! What kind of power supply would you suggest that won’t end up being too expensive? Is 850W ample, or should I go bigger like 1000W?

Just stick with the 5070 Ti; there's really no need to alter your CPU for now.

Appreciate it!

Going for the 5070 Ti sounds solid for 1440p gaming; you should be fine with your CPU. Higher resolutions tend to lessen the bottleneck issue with your CPU too.

Makes sense. Are there any particular GPU brands to steer clear of, or just grab the best deal out there?

The 5070 Ti is definitely a smart purchase. They're available at MSRP right now, and the rumors about a super version haven’t ramped up. Investing in a new GPU is a smart move right now, even with fluctuating ram prices. As for the AM4 CPU, upgrading it long-term doesn’t seem worth it. The performance boost from something like a 5800X is minimal unless you find a X3D chip on sale since a 5800X isn't going to give you the same gain as a new GPU will. After all, I only swapped my AM4 rig to a 5700X3D because I got it free in a trade.

That makes a lot of sense. Plus, with the whispers of AM6 coming soon, I can only imagine how bummed I'd be if I upgraded to AM5 just before its release.
