I'm looking to put together a mid to low-range PC on the AM4 platform for less than $600. So far, I've selected the following components:
- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X - $189.99
- XFX RX 580 - $119.99
- 16GB DDR4 3600 - $49.99
- Crucial P3 Plus 1TB - $64.98
- Thermaltake Smart 500W PSU - $49.99
- ASRock B450/AC R2.0 Motherboard - $74.99
- GameMax M60 Case - $43.99
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 - $29.99
This brings the total to about $623.90 (all prices from Newegg). Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think you're overpaying for the RX 580 at $120. You can often find them for way less if you buy used. Also, that RAM isn't a great deal either; you should aim for 32GB instead for the same price. My advice? Look for used components to save money and spend it on a good power supply instead.
Consider stretching your budget a little for AM5 parts. They might be slightly more expensive, but getting entry-level AM5 now can save you from needing another build in a few years. It gives you an upgrade path for future generations, especially with new consoles on the way!
Definitely check out used parts! I got a RX 580 for under $30, and you can find great deals if you're willing to buy second-hand. For instance, I picked up my Crosshair AM4 motherboard for about $70 and a Ryzen 5950X for $145 after fixing some bent pins. Keep an eye out for Samsung B-Die RAM; it’s usually a great option!
While it might cost a bit more, consider a stronger GPU to boost performance significantly! You could look at something like this:
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700X - $154.99
- ASRock B550M-HDV - $69.98
- 16GB DDR4 3600 - $33.99
- PNY CS1030 1TB SSD - $49.99
- Radeon RX 9060 XT - $249.99
- Thermaltake Versa H18 Case - $49.99
- Apevia Prestige 600W PSU - $51.99
Total is around $660.92. It's pricier, but you're getting a better GPU which improves gaming performance.
That RX 9060 XT sounds great! Just make sure it fits your case and PSU.
