I've been struggling with installing the Peerless Assassin 120se for quite a while, and it's become really frustrating. The instructions and the design seem off, and after watching videos and trying different approaches, I'm thinking about returning it. Can anyone suggest an easier-to-install CPU cooler alternative? I suspect I might have defective brackets because the screws don't seem to line up correctly.

If you want a user-friendly option, Noctua coolers are often recommended for their easy installation, though they can be a bit pricier. The ID-COOLING A620 is a solid budget-friendly choice. If you're considering something in the mid-range, the be quiet! Dark Rock series is worth checking out, as well.
