Hey everyone! I'm starting community college soon and I need help picking out a laptop. I'll mostly be taking general education courses along with some art classes, so I'm looking for something that will last me 4 to 6 years. I want a computer that has good speed, decent storage, and can run games like Minecraft and The Sims. My budget is under $1,500, and to be honest, I don't know much about computers since I've never owned one before. Any advice would be awesome!

Could you share what operating system you're most comfortable with? That can influence what laptop would work best for you!

You might want to check out the MacBook Air! The 500 GB version should work great for your needs. It's reliable and has a nice user experience that's perfect for students.

I'd recommend a decent HP laptop instead. Portability is key since you'll want to bring it to class and study sessions. I wouldn't go for a MacBook; it tends to limit some applications depending on your courses, plus you get a lot more power for your money with Windows laptops. Trust me, you’ll have a hard time running The Sims on a MacBook!

I have a Dell XPS that I bought back in 2020, and it's been fantastic! I use it for everything from schoolwork to video editing and even gaming. It handles Minecraft and Roblox really well, so it's definitely worth considering.

If you're leaning towards a Mac, I'd suggest getting the M4 Air with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for a solid experience. Alternatively, consider a used M3 MacBook Pro from a site like Swappa for a better deal. Just make sure it meets your needs!
