What’s Essential for Building a Powerful Gaming PC?

My friend's old PC finally gave out, and he's using it for both digital art and gaming. We're on a mission to find the best components for a new PC that can handle demanding games without any issues. We're not concerned about aesthetics; we just want it to perform well. What should we consider when choosing parts for this high-performance build?

Check out secondhand options to save some bucks. You can find a setup with a 2070 and a Skylake Xeon, 64 GB RAM, which should still handle modern games decently at lower settings. Just throw Windows 11 on it, and you’ll be good to go! But keep in mind that while this is okay, it’s a bit on the older side regarding performance.

Yeah, but that graphics card is pretty outdated now, and a Skylake CPU won't keep up with newer games. Something more current would be better.

To build a solid gaming PC, aim for an 8-core or better CPU and at least 32 GB of RAM. Go for a modern graphics card with at least 16 GB of VRAM, but a 12 GB might work for 1440p if you're not focused on heavy ray tracing. Grab a 1+ TB NVMe for super fast storage and an 850 Watt PSU to power it all. A solid cooling setup is key too, so consider an AIO cooler for Intel or a good heatsink for AMD. Don't overlook your monitor either; a 144Hz display with FreeSync or GSync is a great investment!

Thanks for the insights! Two folks seem to be debating here, but this is the info I was hoping for.

Good advice! Just a heads-up: if you're sticking with 1440p, you might not need the beefy 16GB GPU unless you're going all out on graphics settings.
