I'm really interested in hearing from anyone who has used Tanium for managing Windows servers. I've been hearing positive reviews, but I'd love to gather some insights from the community about your personal experiences with it. How has it worked out for you?

I've heard mixed things about Tanium, especially with previous issues regarding Linux servers and CPU spikes during updates. If you're using it, collaborating with your security team to set up exceptions for scanning Tanium folders might be a good move. That's one downside for me - the million small files make uninstalling a real pain!

I had a really bad experience with a Tanium demo when we were evaluating it. The rep misrepresented features and another sales rep even suggested we challenge the contract. That’s a major red flag for me.

Tanium isn’t the worst I’ve dealt with, but I can't say it’s my favorite. As a Windows admin, I just send any Tanium issues over to another team, so it's manageable for me.

So you’re saying if you don’t have to deal with it directly, it’s not too bad? That’s good to know!

If you're okay with pushing every endpoint to max resource usage before users even log in, then Tanium might be your thing. But generally, it can be pretty drain-heavy on resources, which is a concern for many.

Yeah, it’s a double-edged sword! If users aren’t able to use their machines effectively, neither can malware. But the costs and resource needs are just crazy. Take a look at how support handles performance issues!

Honestly, pairing it with a security engineer who doesn't understand your environment's workload can lead to a disaster.

Honestly, it felt like a botnet. I wouldn't recommend it. It's been a hassle.

We had to uninstall Tanium from our RHEL and Windows servers pretty quickly after deployment. It chewed through CPU and memory like crazy.

From my experience at a Fortune 100 company, we find it pretty effective. Thumbs up from us! 👍

I appreciate all the feedback here! Seems like there are definitely pros and cons to weigh.

It’s decent for patching and deploying software. But the vulnerability scans? They can really raise your blood pressure!

It’s workable for server management, but it wreaks havoc on systems with spinning disks.

Are spinning disks really still a thing in 2025?
