I recently started downloading Red Dead Redemption 2 (around 120 GB) on Steam to my 2TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD, but the download speeds were super slow. I ran the command `netsh winsock reset` to troubleshoot, then attempted to stop the download and restart my PC. Ever since, my SSD has been acting really strange. Windows is showing the volume as 'dirty', and I can't format the drive; it says it needs repair first. I've tried letting Windows work on it and restarting multiple times, but no luck. Quick format doesn't work either, and deleting the volume in Disk Management hasn't helped. CrystalDiskInfo reports the drive at 100% health and about 40°C, which seems fine. However, running CHKDSK doesn't complete properly, and I get errors related to unreadable file record segments. It's stuck in this limbo, and I'm confused whether this is a file system issue or if the drive is failing, especially since it's brand new. Any advice on what to try next?

I had a similar issue with my 980. It turned out to be a bad firmware. It’s odd that you're facing this with a brand new drive, but sometimes firmware issues can manifest after some usage or even out of the box. Make sure you didn't get a knockoff version!
It sounds like you might be dealing with a firmware issue. There was a batch of Samsung drives that had some serious problems, and they required a firmware update through Samsung Magician to resolve them. I picked one up during that scandal and had to do the update myself. You should check out some videos online about it—there's definitely info on how to fix it. Before I did a clean install of Windows a couple of days ago, I tried updating via Samsung Magician, but it didn't find any available updates.

I really hope it’s not a knockoff. It came sealed with all the manuals, and my PC detected it as a 980 Pro, which should be good... but what’s the best way to check its authenticity?
