I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D for gaming. The Ryzen 9 offers more cores and threads, while the Ryzen 7 boasts a higher base clock speed at 4.7 GHz compared to the 4.4 GHz of the Ryzen 9. However, the Ryzen 9 has a better boost clock speed at 5.5 GHz versus 5.2 GHz for the Ryzen 7. I'm wondering if these differences are significant, particularly in terms of gaming performance. Which one would you recommend?

If you're purely focused on gaming, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the way to go. Its architecture gives all 8 cores access to the 3D cache, making it better for games compared to the Ryzen 9 where only 6 cores have this feature.
From what I've read, the 9900X3D doesn't quite match up to the 9800X3D in gaming, even with its extra cores. If you really want more cores for other tasks, you might want to consider the 9950X3D instead.
Honestly, if gaming is your priority, just stick with the 9800X3D. There's no need to overthink this one.
