What’s the Best Budget 2TB SSD for Gaming?

I'm on the hunt for a good budget-friendly 2TB SSD for my gaming PC and I'm curious about the real differences between high-end options like the Samsung 990 Pro and more affordable choices from brands like SanDisk. Is it worth spending extra for the more expensive models, or can I get away with a cheaper drive? Any recommendations?

The Kioxia Exceria Plus G3 and the WD Blue SN5000 are also worth considering for budget picks. Both have a solid reputation.

Is the WD Blue SN5000 much different from the Sandisk Extreme?

How's the pricing for the WD Black in your area? Just shop around, compare your options, and check benchmarks. I just upgraded from the Samsung 870 to a WD Black 4TB, and while the benchmarks look great, the real-world speedup was only a few seconds in load times for certain games.

The WD Black isn't sold at Microcenter, unfortunately. Is it significantly better than the Sandisk?

Yeah, the WD Black is definitely reliable! Here's a link to the one I'm talking about: [link to product].

The main difference between budget and premium SSDs these days is reliability. Samsung and Sabrent are great brands. For the mid-range, you've got Kingston and such; stay away from unknown brands. Sandisk is a reputable option and should serve you well.

What about Sandisk? Is it mid-tier?

For gaming, the speed differences between SSDs are pretty minimal. Most gamers can't even tell apart SATA from Gen 5 during gameplay. As long as you choose a reliable NVMe from a brand like TeamGroup or SanDisk, you're good. Focus on how many GB you get for your buck, as long as it’s not from some no-name brand.

Exactly, unless you're heavily modding games, you won't really see a big loading time difference.

Thanks! I might just go with the Sandisk since it's cheaper here in Guatemala.

Honestly, for gaming, you probably won't notice a huge difference between high-end and budget SSDs. A decent mid-range drive will do just fine. Something like the P3 Plus is a solid choice. It might not have top-of-the-line specs, but it's reliable and works well for background tasks, which can be super helpful during gaming sessions.

Good point! And yeah, if you don't do much modding, even SATA drives can perform decently in most games.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards something like the Sandisk Extreme 2TB PCIe Gen 4 x4, but I'm still debating if the extra $35 for the Samsung is worth it.
